Yoga & Ceramics

A week made of sunshine, clay and creative flow

Some weeks don’t just relax you. They shape you, gently, from the inside out.

There is something timeless about working with clay. Warm earth between your fingers, slow movements, quiet focus. It invites you to soften, to slow down, to listen, not to your thoughts, but to your hands.

This week on Kos we combine two ancient practices that both bring you home to yourself: yoga to open your body and breath, and ceramics to ground you, steady you, and let your creativity flow.

No rush. No expectations. No need to make anything ‘perfect’.
Just the simple pleasure of creating, moving, resting, and being.

Yoga that feels like coming home to yourself

In the morning, before the world stirs, we meet for a simple ritual: a warm, fiery ginger shot, waking your energy from the inside out.

Then the mat becomes your anchor. The morning Hatha flow builds heat, clarity and lightness. You feel your body relaxes and gains strength at the same time, and your thoughts slowly quiet down.

After practice, a colourful breakfast waits. Fresh, homemade and full of flavour, using local organic ingredients grown under the island sun.
Coffee made with love, herbal tea always within reach.

This is nourishment in every form.

Why Ceramics

Working with clay is a joy. You are creating something beautiful, but more importantly, clay invites you to slow down. It gives you the opportunity to let go of the busyness of everyday life for a while. Out of your head and into your body.

Once you begin, you will often find yourself entering a state of flow. All the “to-do’s” fade into the background and your brain literally starts producing happy chemicals.
As the saying goes: ‘busy hands make happy hearts.’

Program

During the five ceramics sessions, we will focus on both making and decorating a variety of pieces.

Altar

You will create a beautiful (wall) altar, either to hang or to place in a special corner. This small sacred space can be made deeply personal, with a loving text, a place for a candle, or a small flower vase.
It becomes a place to remember a loved one, speak an affirmation, light a candle, or place a flower.

Bowls and dishes
Using slabs and molds, you will create your own bowls, dishes, or small plates, shaping organic forms in clay.
After the first firing, there is time to explore various decorative techniques. You will receive guidance in sgraffito, drawing by carving into the glaze, and we will experiment with bubble glaze.

Tiles

In one of the sessions, we will create your own ceramic tiles. These decorative pieces can be fully personalized with texts, shapes, and colors.
Each tile tells your story. A beautiful way to capture a memory of this special week, so that once you are home, you can often reflect on Kos and everything this experience has brought you.

If you are a perfectionist expecting to return home with a suitcase full of designer ceramics, this week may not meet your expectations. However, if you are willing to slow down, let your hands speak, and open yourself to the clay, to yourself, and to the meaningful conversations that naturally arise during the process, then this week is perfect for you.

Evenings that slow the pace

As the evening arrives, we come together for a gentle Yin practice

After a lovely dinner follows. Fresh, colourful dishes with Greek flavours and a mix of inspiration from around the world. Good food, relaxed conversations, and that easy feeling of belonging.

About Annemiek from Colour Your Wings

Since 2020, working with ceramics has completely captured me. What began as a hobby has grown into my daily work. I run my own ceramics studio in Meppel, where I teach workshops and courses. Clay has become both my source of income and my happy place: a golden combination.
I know from personal experience what it feels like to step out of the so-called rat race and choose a life that truly fits.

Until three years ago, I was head of Human Resources at a large organization, a rewarding position with great responsibility, but not one that ultimately made me happy.

By changing course, I now have the privilege of helping others experience the magic of clay: creating beautiful things, rediscovering play, and slowing down. And often, a deep sense of connection grows among participants. That’s when the most beautiful conversations begin.

Therma – Floating Between Stars and Sea
One evening we take you to Therma, the natural hot springs tucked between rocks and sea. You slide into warm, healing water while the sky switches from gold to indigo. The waves whisper against the shore. Stars appear, one by one. There is a moment where the world feels quieter and you feel lighter than you have in a long time.

Sunset Meditation at Hippocrates Altis
On our last evening, we visit the sacred grounds near the Asklepion, the ancient healing place of Hippocrates. Here, surrounded by history and silence, the sunset paints the landscape in colours you won’t forget.

We guide you through a meditation that feels like a closing circle, a blessing, a soft landing. Most guests say this moment stays with them long after they’ve returned home.
